A conservative approach to restoring any chips, discolouration or imperfections in your teeth. At Whitefield Dental, our dentists use high quality composite materials to give you a brighter smile that is seamless, timeless and harmonious with the rest of your teeth.

COMPOSITE BONDING

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure where dentists use high quality composite materials to restore and manipulate your teeth to the desired aesthetic result you want.

You may consider composite bonding if you want to:

  • Correct the size of your teeth

  • Correct the shape of your teeth

  • Correct discolouration of a tooth

  • Correct slight misalignments of teeth

  • Close gaps between teeth

  • Complete smile makeover

  • Restore chips or cracks in teeth

  • Restore teeth broken down by extensive tooth wear

WHAT IS COMPOSITE BONDING

Composite bonding can help to improve the appearance of your teeth, whether that is the shape, size or colour of your teeth

  • Natural results - Gives you a brighter smile you can feel confident with.

  • Fast - Most cases can be done in a single visit, making it quick and convenient.

  • Affordable - Cosmetic treatment which does not require additional lab-made restorations.

  • Conservative - In most cases, no destruction or preparation of healthy tooth tissue is required due to the advanced technology of dental bonding and composite materials - preserving your natural teeth.

  • Reversible - In most cases where there is no drilling involved, composite bonding is 100% reversible.

  • Easily manipulated - Composite bonding can be altered and manipulated as and when you like. This takes away the pressure of getting it ‘perfect’ and committing to a permanent smile that is irreversible.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In most cases, no drilling of your natural teeth is required. This means no local anaesthesia, no needles, no pain.

Our clinicians are trained and committed to making your treatment as comfortable as possible. Please do not hesitate to voice any concerns with any of our clinicians during your appointment.

  • Composite bonding uses high quality composite that is placed on top of your natural tooth surface to be shaped and sized to the desired aesthetic result you want.

Composite requires certain conditions in order to bond to your natural tooth correctly, providing you with long-lasting results. These conditions include a dry and clean working zone with no saliva contamination.

Acid-etch - the dentist will begin by placing and acid-etch on your tooth surfaces.

Bond - this is followed by placing a bonding agent which the composite can bond to.

Composite - the dentist will place composite to the desired shape and size you want.

Cured - The composite is cured in stages using a curing light to ensure it is set correctly.

Polish - Using high quality polishing materials, the composite surface is polished to produce a seamless and beautiful finish.

  • Discolouration - Composite is susceptible to staining and discolouration. Certain foods or drinks such as coffee, wine, tea and habits such as smoking can contribute to this.

Cracks or chips - Tooth grinding or habits such as opening cans, objects with your teeth, or biting your nails/chewing on pen lids etc. can cause the composite bonding to chip or crack. Wearing a bite guard can help protect your teeth against cracks or wear.

Poor oral hygiene - as your healthy teeth are the foundations of your composite bonding, it is essential you continue to practice good oral hygiene at home. If you develop dental pain or decay in your teeth, your composite bonding may fail.

  • A veneer is like a false nail which is thinner and sits over the front surface of the tooth. This requires drilling your natural tooth and placing a lab-made veneer on top of your natural teeth.

Composite bonding usually requires no drilling of your natural teeth and can be done chair-side without any additional lab-made restorations. This makes composite bonding a very conservative treatment of choice.

  • Some patients who are looking for a complete smile makeover may consider teeth whitening alongside their composite bonding.

We recommend completing your teeth whitening before commencing with composite bonding.

This allows our clinicians to accurately match the composite shade to your desired tooth shade, providing your with a seamless and beautiful finish.
