Dr Ali Nahiyeh, Skin Aesthetics Doctor, carries out dermal filler treatments at Whitefield Dental.
Tear trough filler can soften the under-eye hollows that make you look tired even after a good night's sleep. It helps when the cause is lost volume. It won't fix puffy bags or dark pigment. At Whitefield Dental, dermal filler treatments are carried out by Dr Ali Nahiyeh, our skin aesthetics doctor.
Looking tired when you don't feel tired is one of the most common reasons people ask us about fillers in Whitefield. For the right person, under-eye filler works well. For others, a different treatment will help more, and we'd rather tell you that at the start.
What is the tear trough?
The tear trough is the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye down towards the cheek. With age, gradual volume loss and thinning skin make it deeper, and the shadow it casts is often mistaken for dark circles. For some people, genetics mean the hollow shows from their twenties.
What tear trough filler does
Treatment uses a soft hyaluronic acid gel, placed carefully to smooth the step between the lower eyelid and the cheek. Reducing the hollow reduces the shadow, which is why a good result looks rested rather than obviously treated. Only small amounts are used. Sometimes supporting the cheek first gives a more natural result than treating the under-eye area on its own.
When fillers in Whitefield can help tired eyes
Visible hollowing beneath the eyes
Shadows that stay even when you're well rested
Reasonable skin quality and elasticity
Realistic expectations of a subtle change
As with all dermal fillers in England, treatment is only available to adults aged 18 and over.
When it isn't the right answer
Not every tired look comes from hollowing. Puffy bags caused by fat pads or fluid can look worse with filler, and dark circles caused by pigmentation or visible blood vessels won't change colour. Very thin or crepey skin can also show filler underneath, and significant loose skin is usually better assessed by a surgeon.
Where skin quality is the main concern, our regenerative medicine treatments, including polynucleotides, work on the skin itself rather than adding volume.
What happens at your appointment
Every treatment starts with a consultation covering your medical history and a careful look at the under-eye area in different lighting. If filler is suitable, numbing cream is applied before the product is placed with a fine needle or a cannula. Filler treatments usually take 15 to 30 minutes, and the change is visible straight away, with the final result clearer once any swelling settles.
Recovery, risks and how long results last
Mild swelling and bruising are common for a few days and usually settle on their own. Avoid strenuous exercise, heat and facial massage straight after treatment. Small lumps or a bluish tinge under thin skin can happen and can usually be corrected.
The under-eye area is delicate. Serious complications, such as filler blocking a blood vessel, are rare but can affect the skin or even vision, which is why this treatment should only be done by a medically trained practitioner. A useful safety point is that hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed.
Results vary. Fillers typically last between six months and two years depending on the product and the area, and the under-eye area often holds filler longer than more mobile parts of the face. Our article on how lifestyle choices affect dermal filler results explains what can shorten or extend that.
Choosing a clinic for fillers in Whitefield
Look for a medically qualified practitioner who assesses you properly, explains the risks clearly and is willing to say no when filler isn't the right option. Dr Nahiyeh plans every under-eye treatment around a subtle, natural-looking change.
Our Skin Dr. clinic is part of Whitefield Dental on Radcliffe New Road, with Sunday appointments that suit patients who work in Manchester during the week.

Frequently asked questions
Does tear trough filler hurt?
Most people describe mild discomfort rather than pain. Numbing cream is used, and many fillers also contain a local anaesthetic.
Will tear trough filler get rid of my dark circles?
It can soften shadows caused by hollowing, but it won't change dark circles caused by pigmentation or visible blood vessels.
How long does tear trough filler last?
It varies between people. Fillers typically last six months to two years, and the under-eye area tends to hold filler well.
Can tear trough filler be reversed?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, which is one reason it's the usual choice for this area.
